Piotr Kazmierkiewicz


Piotr Kazmierkiewicz has worked as a migration policy consultant to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) since 2007, covering Albania, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and countries of Central Asia, leading research teams in the fields of labour migration, return migration and linkages between migration and local development. Mr. Kazmierkiewicz has been a migration policy expert at the Institute of Public Affairs in Warsaw since 2002, and has done evaluation studies in the areas of labour migration, visa policy, border management, migrant rights and development cooperation in Central Europe and CIS countries as a consultant to the European Commission, UNHCR, OSCE and UNDP.  He did doctoral studies and holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from Central European University, Budapest (1997), Master’s degree in English Studies from Nicolaus Copernicus University, Toruń, Poland (1998) and a BA, summa cum laude, in Political Science from Southern Oregon University (1996), Ashland, USA. Mr Kazmierkiewicz was a recipient of International Policy Fellowship of Open Society Institute (1999-2000) and an extern at the UNHCR headquarters in Geneva (1999). His areas of expertise include migration and visa policy, border and migration management and irregular migration, labour migration and international development, integration of migrants as well as think tank management. Editor and author of research reports, policy manuals and collections of studies. Mr Kazmierkiewicz is a national of Poland and speaks and writes in English, Russian and reads French.
