The impact of the single market on cohesion: implications for cohesion policy, growth and competitiveness

In partnership with LSE Enterprise and the Vienna University of Economics and Business & University of Helsinki, CASE begins a study titled, Single Market on Cohesion: Implications for Cohesion Policy, Growth and Competitiveness.  porject researchers will provide an overview of cohesion policy and its interrelationship with other EU policies promoting competitiveness and a single market.

Firstly, the study will assess the impact of the single market on growth, competitiveness and employment at the national and regional levels in the EU-27 (in particular as regards its role in generating disparities and convergence).  Second, it will evaluate the appropriateness of the strategies and interventions developed in cohesion policy programmes during the 2007-2013 programming period to achieve growth, competitiveness and employment at national and regional levels.  Lastly, the study will analyse the policy linkages and institutional relationship between the Lisbon process and European cohesion policy. Experts will draw conclusions for the future cohesion policy for the period post-2013 and explore the possible ways to resolve the principle-agent  problem in the context of the Europe 2020 strategy.

A kick-off meeting in Brussels in July will begin the one year study.  The project is funded by DG Regional Policy .
