Dr. Anders Åslund

The seminar will take place on March 13th, 2017 at 3:00 pm
at mBank S.A. head office, Senatorska 18, room 5.3, 5th floor, Warsaw.

Dr. Anders Åslund is a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council. He also teaches at Georgetown University. He is a leading specialist on economic policy in Russia, Ukraine, Eastern Europe and the European Union. He is Chairman of the Advisory Council of CASE and of the Board of International Advisors, Bank of Finland Institute of Transition. He earned his doctorate at the University Of Oxford. Dr. Åslund has worked as an economic adviser to several governments, including the Russian and Ukrainian governments.

About the seminar:

The Russian economy has gone through two challenging years. It is caught in persistent stagnation, but thanks to a skillful macroeconomic policy, the economy has stabilized. The so-called systemic liberals are in charge of macroeconomic policy, while President Vladimir Putin allows state corporations, cronies, and law enforcement agencies to dominate the corporate economy. This economic model leaves little room for economic growth, but the Soviet Union taught us that a suboptimal system can last for a long time, as long as it is not overwhelmed by acute financial crisis.

Languages of the seminar: English (simultaneous translation to Polish will be provided).
