“The Euro Area in Crisis”: the 2012 EUROFRAME Conference volume released

“In 2012, the euro is a failure from many aspects: the euro area is unable to recover the nine percentage points of GDP lost because of the financial crisis; GDP will fall slightly in 2012 and is expected to be stagnant in 2013,” state Catherine Mathieu and Henri Sterdyniak in the introduction to the volume published after the 9th EUROFRAME conference on economic policy issues in the European Union, which was held in Kiel, Germany, on June 8th, 2012.
The post-conference volume, entitled “The Euro Area in Crisis”, is a collection of twelve papers that address, from various angles and perspectives, inter alia, the following questions: What are the origins of the crisis, and how should the Member States react to the current situation? Can the euro be maintained in the future?

This year, the 10th EUROFRAME conference will be hosted by CASE and will take place in Warsaw on May 24th, 2013. The conference, entitled “Towards a better governance in the EU?”, aims to provide an economic forum for debate on economic policy issues relevant in the European context, where the participants will focus on how to improve European governance in the broadest possible sense.
