Service Sector Performance and its contribution to the Europe 2020 strategy

After three years of implementation, the project “SERVICEGAP – The Impact of Service sector Innovation and Internationalization on Growth and Productivity” comes to an end.
The aim of the project was to understand the economic impact of market services on aggregate economic growth in the EU and its comparative performance relative to competitor regions, like the United States. The project analyzed, inter alia, developments in productivity and its drivers within market services, as well as linkages between services and manufacturing industries. Since 2010 researchers have been working on these issues, producing a number of publications within the project.

On January 29-30, 2013, the whole Consortium gathered in Brussels to discuss the final results. The researchers discussed the relevance of the project findings for policymakers and their implications for the Europe 2020 strategy. Two additional sessions presented policy-relevant research papers arising from the project findings.
