Latest report published within the MEDPRO project

The newly-published report, entitled “Economic Development, Trade and Investment in the Eastern and Southern Mediterranean Region”, provides an overview of economic challenges and prospective scenarios faced by a group of 11 countries located in the Eastern and Southern Mediterranean region. The study concentrates on economic issues, as the economic performance of any country is intended to improve the quality of life of its population.

The authors, two CASE Fellows, Marek Dąbrowski and Luc DeWulf, observe that, in spite of many differences characterizing each country in the region, there are some common lessons from the past that should be taken into account when designing the region’s future policies. Furthermore, the main partners of the MED countries, especially the EU, can greatly support future changes by liberalizing trade in some sensitive sectors, adopting a more flexible approach to MED labor migration, and cooperating in mitigating climate changes, improving educational outcomes, and promoting science and culture.
In their study the authors drew extensively from various reports and papers prepared within the MEDPRO project, as well as studies and data sources published by key institutions, inter alia the World Bank, IMF, UNDP and OECD.
