Robert Lanquar holds a doctorate in Tourism Economics and Law from Aix-Marseille III University, a PhD in Recreation Resources Organizational Development from Texas A&M University (USA), and a further doctorate from the University of Córdoba (Spain).
A former international civil servant at the World Tourism Organization, he has advised numerous international institutions, including UN Tourism, UNEP, the World Bank, the European Commission and the Commonwealth Secretariat, notably on projects in Seychelles. He coordinated tourism activities for the Blue Plan, contributed as a tourism expert to MEDPRO, and has led several networks promoting Mediterranean cooperation. He also founded MED-DEV—the Mediterranean Sustainable Development Market, linking trade, tourism and environmental action.
Since 2022, he has served as Commissioner of the Cordoba World Forum on Convivence, promoting intercultural dialogue, sustainable development and peaceful Convivence through culture, development and tourism
Over almost six decades, Robert Lanquar has taught at universities and business schools in Europe, Canada and Africa. He is the author of more than 20 books and over 350 reports and articles on tourism, sustainable development and the environment. His publications have appeared in several languages, including English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Turkish, Arabic and Vietnamese. His recent books published by Ethics International Press include Convivence: Beyond Cohabitation and Conviviality, Rethinking Travel and Tourism and International Tourism: A Handbook.
He was CEO of Cordoba Horizontes, providing expertise in agribusiness, trade and tourism across the Mediterranean and Africa, and has also worked as a columnist for the Moroccan economic publication L’Économiste.
