Dr. Oskar Chmiel works as Senior Social Sciences Researcher on policy-oriented and academic research projects related to international development cooperation, migration, and trade at CASE – Center for Social and Economic Research. As part of his work, he conducted research commissioned by such organisations as the European Parliament, European Commission, European Committee of the Regions, European Economic and Social Committee, and the Polish government.
Since October 2023, he has been the Principal Investigator of a postdoctoral research project funded by the National Science Centre (NCN), which explores the trade-development-migration nexus in the EU’s approach towards the countries of its Southern Neighbourhood. The study seeks to clarify how knowledge diffusion relates to policy narratives and practices.
Before joining CASE, Oskar gained experience in academia, research, and business, including as a doctoral researcher and lecturer at the University of Wroclaw, an associate at the Polish Centre for African Studies (PCSA), and as Business Support Specialist at EY (formerly, Ernst & Young). His international experience includes research stays at the European University Institute (EUI), German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), University of Granada, and an internship at Istanbul Gelisim University. Most recently, he completed a research visit at the University of Geneva.
