On 19 June, the second negotiation workshop took place as part of the SEAC2CDR project in Madrid, hosted by Universidad Pontificia Comillas, facilitated by our experts Jan Bazyli Klakla and Agnieszka Maj. The workshop contributed to the project’s work on understanding public and stakeholder perceptions of marine-based carbon dioxide removal (mCDR), and on exploring how different perspectives can inform responsible, transparent and inclusive governance of emerging mCDR approaches. The workshop brought together stakeholders from public policy, environmental organisations, marine science, business and carbon markets. Participants explored how emerging approaches (including ocean alkalinity enhancement and macroalgae-based CO₂ removal) can be assessed, monitored and governed in an inclusive, transparent and responsible way. During the workshop we hosted participants from: Spanish Office for Climate Change, IEMed, Greenpeace Spain, Oceana, IMEDEA-CSIC/UIB, Global Factor and MacroCarbon.
