Project description:

The war in Ukraine has further destabilised already fragile agricultural markets, in addition to challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change. It directly affects global food supplies of wheat, maize, barley and sunflower oil and affects already high food, feed, fertiliser and fossil fuel energy prices. In this context, the European Commission put forward measures to help to secure access to basic goods and services, while also highlighting the need to accelerate the transition to more sustainable and resilient food systems to better prepare for any future crises. The aim of this file note is to provide factual and visually friendly answers to the following questions:

Main agri-food sectors affected by the crisis, current challenges and territorial impacts, including a map of most affected regions.
What is the EU doing so far in relation to the agri-food crisis and is this sufficient? How are EU funds used to this end?

What are LRAs doing to address these challenges? Which strategies and tools have been already put in place at local and regional level? How could food security and sustainability be enhanced at local and regional level? What are the instruments and funding available to build up regional food autonomy? How could citizens be encouraged to use more locally produced food?
