Senior Social Sciences Researcher
Dr Martyna Gliniecka is a Senior Social Sciences Researcher at the CASE - Center for Social and Economic Research. At CASE, she specialises in social research and policy projects, with a focus on qualitative research, participatory methods, and equality, diversity and inclusion. She previously led and participated in research projects in the Young and Resilient Research Centre at Western Sydney University, aiming to better young people’s lives and their resilience in the domains of technology and health. She specialises in qualitative research methods, participatory methodologies, and digital research (e.g., digital ethnography). She is especially interested in online communities and their role in the growing domain of youth digital health.

  The Decolonising Digital Design project was born out of the conviction that children and young people have the right to digital spaces that are safe, fair, and respectful of their diverse cultural identities.
- Fact or Fiction: Developing Inquiry and Critical Thinking Skills in Youth
  Our mission is to inspire youth aged 12-19 to practice intelligent disobedience—doing what’s right despite pressures. Our main objective is to equip adolescents with the skills to confidently navigate the rapidly evolving digital environment and develop key competencies and digital resilience for independent functioning in adulthood. The project will be based on the participatory approach to ensure our workshop scenarios are evidence-based and address the real needs of today's youth and educators. Outputs’ testing and implementation will equip participants with essential critical thinking skills for navigating a complex online world. On-site and international online multiplier events will ensure widespread dissemination of our activities and results, amplifying the impact among adolescents and educators. Participants will explore social impact, cognitive biases, and topics like economics and online culture, sharpening their ability to distinguish facts from opinions. Educators will gain insights into digital education tools and strategies for nurturing students’ CT and information verification skills. Deliverables include 18 CT workshops for youth, supported by a report with themed scenarios and exercises for integrating CT skills into daily lessons.

Author’s projects

The Future Forward project, Futures-Inspired Educational Resources for Adult Learners’ Empowerment, focuses on developing Futures Literacy (FL) as a 21st-century skill necessary for consciously coping with social, economic, and cultural changes. The project responds to the growing need to support adults – especially those with migration experience and rural residents – in building mental resilience and critical thinking skills in the face of an uncertain future. The project is aimed at adult learners from groups particularly vulnerable to exclusion and at educators/teachers of these adults.

The aim of the project is to empower adult learners and their educators by equipping them with future skills. Futures Literacy is an innovative method that supports people in imagining alternative futures and questioning assumptions about the present, or in other words, imagining what an ideal future might look like in the context of specific cultural and social issues, such as technology, climate change, and attempting to apply these assumptions to the realities of life.

The specific objectives of the project include:

introducing target groups to the issue of futures literacy
increasing awareness and the importance of critical thinking and adaptation to change among educators by equipping them with the appropriate tools
analyzing the needs of adult learners and educators in the context of future challenges
supporting educators in networking and exchanging experiences

The project will result in, among other things:

“Train the Trainers” workshops for educators from Poland and Latvia,
Local FL training for 200 adults,
A publication on FL applications in science, education, and business
A guide for educators to design FL scenarios, with 15 ready-to-use examples

Cooperation with MIHI (Latvia) and Fremtenkt (Norway) enriches the project with a Nordic perspective and transnational exchange of experiences in the practical application of future-oriented education.

The Future Forward project not only strengthens the competences of educators, but also supports the development of local communities and counteracts digital and social exclusion through an innovative approach to learning in conditions of uncertainty.
