The project will be based on the participatory approach to ensure our workshop scenarios are evidence-based and address the real needs of today's youth and educators. Outputs’ testing and implementation will equip participants with essential critical thinking skills for navigating a complex online world. On-site and international online multiplier events will ensure widespread dissemination of our activities and results, amplifying the impact among adolescents and educators. Participants will explore social impact, cognitive biases, and topics like economics and online culture, sharpening their ability to distinguish facts from opinions. Educators will gain insights into digital education tools and strategies for nurturing students’ CT and information verification skills. Deliverables include 18 CT workshops for youth, supported by a report with themed scenarios and exercises for integrating CT skills into daily lessons.
Author’s projects

As part of the project “CASE on Poland’s Twenty Years in the EU” we invite you to a series of lectures and panel discussions. We will focus on broadly defined issues related to Poland’s membership in the European Union. We will discuss the complex aspects of institutional, economic, social, and political changes resulting from EU membership. We will not only limit ourselves to retrospection but also look to the future, considering possible future expansions.

The topics we intend to address cover various aspects of social and economic life. We will examine the impact of the single market on member states and consider the costs and benefits of introducing the euro. Considering the context of further expansions, we will reflect on the challenges for the free movement of people and the labor market, as well as the competitiveness of agriculture. We will also not forget to analyze the achievements of cohesion policy in the new member states and the future challenges it faces.

We are opening the series of project events with the 181st mBank-CASE Seminar entitled:

“20th Anniversary of Poland in the EU: What Worked and What Didn’t? Lessons for the Future.”

This year, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Poland in the European Union. Over the past two decades, Poland has experienced intense economic growth, developing infrastructure, improving the quality of life for its citizens, and building stronger ties with other member countries. We are proud of our achievements, although we know that there is still much work ahead of us.

We will discuss the future of Poland and the European Union at the seminar on April 17th, featuring:

Permanent rapporteur of the European Parliament for the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework (budget) and a Member of the European Parliament, serving in this capacity for 20 years.

Territorial effects of European Union policies in Poland – Prof. Dr Hab. Grzegorz Gorzelak

The lecture by Professor Grzegorz Gorzelak focuses on:

Are the benefits of EU membership primarily about money?
Do the EU funds really contribute to equalizing differences between regions?
Are roads and bridges more important than human capital and education?

Professor Grzegorz Gorzelak provides accessible answers to these questions and addresses issues relevant from the perspective of Polish membership in the European Union.

Costs and benefits of Poland’s accession to the euro zone – Prof. Michał Brzoza-Brzezina

Professor Michał Brzoza-Brzezina answears the following questions in the lecture: what do the numbers say – how to estimate GDP growth and the benefits of exchange rate stabilization after joining the eurozone?; should we be afraid of rising prices?; can political benefits be converted into GDP?; what are the consequences of losing independent monetary policy?

Economic benefits of Poland’s accession to the European Union – Dr. hab. Jan Hagemejer

Jan Hagemejer, Vice-President of CASE and Professor at the University of Warsaw, explores the significant economic benefits Poland has experienced since joining the European Union. In his lecture, he discusses how Poland’s GDP compares to other EU member states and what the country’s economy might have looked like had it remained outside the Union. By examining hypothetical scenarios, Jan offers a comprehensive view of how EU membership has shaped Poland’s economic trajectory.

The role of the rule of law in the European Union – Dr. Barbara Grabowska-Moroz

Dr. Barbara Grabowska-Moroz of the CEU Democracy Institute gave a lecture on how the EU defends its values, covering: how the EU reacts to rule of law threats in member states, the effectiveness of Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union and Poland’s 2016 events and their impact on EU democracy.

Her lecture highlights why the rule of law matters and how the EU works to protect it.

Post-accession migrations from Poland – Dr. Rafał Raczyński

In the lecture “Post-accession migration from Poland”, Dr Rafał Raczyński provides an in-depth analysis of migration trends following Poland’s accession to the European Union. He explores how migration processes were shaped before accession and examines the main characteristics of post-accession migration, including its main directions, characteristics and patterns of selectivity.

Using data and research from the Emigration Museum in Gdynia, the lecture addresses the impact of Brexit on migration trends and discusses why Iceland has become an increasingly popular destination for Polish migrants. This session provides valuable insights into ongoing developments in Polish migration and their wider implications.
