Andrzej Robaszewski, Director of Sustainable Development at CASE, shared his opinion in a debate on money.pl regarding tariffs on Chinese electric cars, in response to Piotr Arak’s article.

Higher tariffs on Chinese cars mean that for the European Commission, maintaining jobs and profits in the automotive industry is more important than fighting climate change.

He emphasizes that the introduction of tariffs could weaken the EU’s climate policy rather than support the decarbonization of transportation. As a result, higher prices for European electric cars could hinder the achievement of climate goals and increase the average age of vehicles in Europe. Andrzej points out a contradiction in EU policy, which, on one hand, focuses on developing green technologies, but on the other, defends its own industry, which may impact market competitiveness and raise costs for consumers.
