Senior Social Sciences Researcher

Dr Martyna Gliniecka is a Senior Social Sciences Researcher at the CASE - Center for Social and Economic Research. At CASE, she specialises in social research and policy projects, with a focus on qualitative research, participatory methods, and equality, diversity and inclusion. She previously led and participated in research projects in the Young and Resilient Research Centre at Western Sydney University, aiming to better young people’s lives and their resilience in the domains of technology and health. She specialises in qualitative research methods, participatory methodologies, and digital research (e.g., digital ethnography). She is especially interested in online communities and their role in the growing domain of youth digital health.

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy is conducting a pilot program to reduce the working week to four days. While public debate mostly focuses on economic arguments, experts also point to significant social, health, and environmental benefits. As Martyna Gliniecka from CASE emphasises in an article for Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, a shorter working week is especially important for people who combine their jobs with caring responsibilities. It can improve family relationships, reduce fatigue, boost concentration, and lower CO₂ emissions and resource use. Having more time for rest also supports better health and reduces the risk of burnout, which in the long term may ease the burden on the healthcare system.

Changing the way we work is especially important for people who combine their jobs with caring responsibilities, such as looking after children, elderly family members, or people with disabilities.
