Jan Hagemejer, President of CASE Management Board, comments in a Business Insider Polska article on the effects of the EU–Mercosur trade agreement. He points out that the main beneficiaries will be key industrial sectors, including automotive, machinery, and metals. He stresses that industry plays a much larger role in the economy than agriculture, which is why the overall balance of the agreement for both the EU and Poland will be positive.

The overall balance for the entire European Union will certainly be positive, especially due to the expansion of industry.

The expert notes that the impact of the agreement on agriculture will be limited, among other things due to tariff-rate quotas and safeguard clauses. In his view, farmers’ concerns are often amplified by political arguments, while the real scale of potential losses will be small. He also underlines that opening access to the Mercosur market will strengthen the EU’s position in global trade and bring benefits to consumers, including lower food prices.
