“Migration Without Myths” – a discussion on the relationship between migration research and migration policy in Poland, taking as its starting point the latest book by Hein de Haas.
We warmly invite you to the eighth seminar in the CASE Studies series, which will take place on 4 February 2026, exceptionally at 4:00 PM, and will be devoted to migration issues.
Published by Glowbook, the book “How migration really works: 22 things you need to know about the most divisive issue in politics” by Professor Hein de Haas, a leading expert in the field, has just been released. In this important publication, the author debunks myths about migration used by politicians on both the right and the left. Instead of overly simplified and widely circulated narratives, he offers a perspective on migration grounded in knowledge derived from rigorous research. CASE has granted the book its substantive patronage, recognizing its contribution to the public debate.
During the meeting, we will discuss:
-
the main theses presented in Hein de Haas’s book;
-
how expert knowledge can — and whether it should — influence public policy, particularly in the field of migration;
-
previous experiences of cooperation between the expert community and public administration in Poland.
The speakers will include:
-
Dr hab. Maciej Duszczyk – Professor at the University of Warsaw – Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw; Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Poland;
-
Dr hab. Paweł Kaczmarczyk – Professor at the University of Warsaw – Director of the Centre of Migration Research, University of Warsaw;
