The social dimension of European integration has been greatly developed through the years. It is a key aspect in the 20 principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights and in the EPSR Action Plan with its headline goal of reducing poverty by 15 million by 2030. The coordination of social security systems is needed to support the free movement of people within the territory of the EU. The European Parliament has always shown a keen interest in the problems encountered by migrant workers, frontier workers, the self-employed and nationals of third countries working in other Member States, and has adopted various resolutions with a view to improving their lot, ensuring fair mobility and removing obstacles to full freedom of movement.
