The study on “The Development of Long-Term Care in Post-Socialist Member States of the EU” published

The population ageing process in Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries is more dynamic than in the “Old Europe”. In the context of these demographic changes, as well as social changes, taking place in Europe, a strong need for the institutionalization of the long-term care (LTC) system is becoming apparent. “It is a huge challenge that can probably be successfully addressed, but only assuming a much deeper involvement of social policy in this segment of social protection than there has been to date,” state Stanisława Golinowska and Agnieszka Sowa in their latest study within the ANCIEN project.
The authors of the study draw attention to the issue of LTC, which is the missing link in the social protection system. They show the development of LTC over time, providing characteristics of the notion and describing the current situation in the countries studied.
