CASE at the conference “Polish Natural Gas 2020. Laws, taxes, perspectives”

Maciej Sobolewski spoke at the conference “Polish Natural Gas 2020. Laws, taxes, perspectives”, organized by the Polish Exploration and Production Industry Organization and The Chamber of the Natural Gas Industry. The main goal of the meeting was to discuss legal and tax solutions in the area of gas exploration and exploitation that would attract both Polish and foreign investors and, thus, contribute to Poland’s economic development.
During the first panel, the experts discussed the conditions that should be created in order to make Poland an attractive market and, thus, ensure that potential investors receive a return on their investments. The second panel was devoted to tax issues, in particular the fiscal obligations that should be implemented in order to facilitate investors’ ability to obtain financing and to encourage them to invest in the Polish exploitation-extraction business.

Maciej Sobolewski presented during the third panel, which tackled the issue of the economic importance of shale gas production for Poland, the EU and the global economy. In his presentation, Dr. Sobolewski reviewed possible scenarios for the development of shale gas production in Poland and discussed the forecasted effects of each scenario for the Polish macro-economy until the year 2025. The conference gathered representatives of, inter alia, the Polish Ministry of Environment, the Polish Ministry of Treasury, the Polish Ministry of Finance, the Canadian Ministry of Energy, as well as key energy companies operating in Poland.
Energy sector development is currently one of the most important challenges faced by Poland. CASE plays an active role in the debate on the direction for this development through various research projects, with special attention being paid to the macroeconomic effects of developing new energy sources and the country’s energy policy.
